It was a momentous day with a sumptuous luncheon prepared for the December 2022 Dean’s List honorees. Indeed, it was one of its kind! The Africa University Vice Chancellor Reverend Professor Peter Mageto and the Academic Senate  organized a luncheon for students who championed academic excellence for the past semester on all levels of study, be it first year, second year, third year and final year. This took place on the 4th of April in the Reeves Wesley Fellowship Foundation Center and the Institute of Peace Leadership and Governance the following day. VC Rev. Prof. Mageto and the Interim Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Pamela Machakanja were present to grace the occasion along with college  Deans .

Rev. Prof. Mageto congratulated all the students who attended the luncheon and urged them to keep on championing the University’s values of  excellence and hard work. He further said, “It’s one thing to be on the top, and it’s another thing to maintain yourself on the top,” implying that being on the Dean’s list is a very serious obligation that requires commitment and continuous study. I/DVC Professor Machakanja echoed on the Vice Chancellor’s philosophy of student centeredness, where merit is acknowledged. She also assured the students that rewards come in different ways, and the luncheon is just the beginning, bigger rewards are to be expected!

Tracy Ngowe an Agribusiness student in CHANS, greatly appreciated the university for such an acknowledgement. She said, “This is so motivating, it brings a sense of pride and boosts self-esteem.” Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Theology, Humanities and Education Professor Girma Menelik  added, “The beginning of this acknowledgement is historic, a perfect journey for academic excellence.” He emphasized the necessity of giving more motivation to students who champion academic excellence.

We wish more success to the December 2022 Dean’s List students and encourage other members of the student body to add their names to the roll of honor. It is possible!
